SINK:

  1. Insert stopper into drain on garbage disposal side and fill with hot water, checking to make sure hot water is on the left;
  2. When the sink has filled, pull the plug, turn on the disposal and look under the cabinet for leaks;
  3. Disposal should be free from vibration and excessive noise;
  4. Operable wand if applicable;
  5. Faucet leakage and proper operation;

Note:  Instant hot water is potential scorch hazard

UNDER-CABINET: In addition to leaks, look for:

  1. Water damage/leaks;
  2. Hi-loop or air gap dishwasher anti-siphon device;
  3. Proper trap;
  4. Air admission valves must be min. 4” above trap arm;
  5. Proper disposal wiring (hard-wire or proper cord).
  6. GFCI protection of outlets (where applicable)

 

DISHWASHER: Drink water from a clean glass, and then put it in the dishwasher and turn it on. WATCH FOR LEAKS!

 

COUNTERTOPS: Check for:

  1. Damage;
  2. Presence of backsplash
  3. Adequate electrical receptacles (GFCI?);
  4. Are they fastened to the cabinets?
  5. CABINETS: Check them all for:
  6. Proper drawer operation;
  7. Proper door operation;
  8. Damage outside/inside

 

RANGE: Check for:

  1. Anti-tip devices (try to tip the stove toward you);
  2. Operate burners and oven;
  3. Proper ignition and flame pattern/color (blue=good);
  4. Gas shut off within reach;
  5. No gas pipes through cabinets;

 

OVEN:

  1. 220v receptacle securely attached
  2. Intact oven door seal;
  3. Damage outside/inside.
  4. MICROWAVE: Use a tester to confirm proper operation.

 

RANGE HOOD: 

  1. Exhaust type: recirculating or exhaust to the exterior;
  2. Lights operable;
  3. Fan operable (check all speeds).
  4. REFRIGERATOR/FREEZER: Check for:
  5. Damage outside/inside;
  6. Intact shelving;
  7. Proper temperatures (40°/0°);
  8. Intact door seal.
  9. Operable light
  10. Ice maker
  11. Water valve
  12. TRASH COMPACTOR: operate through cycle
  13. ELECTRICAL OUTLETS
  14. Dedicated outlets for anything with a motor: Dishwasher, disposal, fridge, trash compactor
  15. GFCI protection;
  16. Adequate number;
  17.   Proper location (not over sink);
  18. No conventional receptacles in countertop (pop-up OK)
